The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between perceived family health and social media addiction among university students and to determine whether social media addiction levels differed according to selected sociodemographic variables. The study was conducted using a quantitative correlational survey design. The sample consisted of 205 university students studying in Türkiye. Data were collected online using the Sociodemographic Information Form, the Social Media Addiction Scale, and the Family Health Scale-Short Form. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach’s alpha reliability analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, simple linear regression analysis, independent samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance were used in data analysis. Tukey HSD post-hoc test was applied in cases where significant differences were found. The findings indicated a low-level, negative, and statistically significant relationship between perceived family health and social media addiction. In addition, perceived family health negatively and significantly predicted social media addiction. Social media addiction scores differed significantly according to gender and daily social media use duration; female students had higher social media addiction scores than male students. No significant difference was found according to age and number of siblings. The findings suggest that social media addiction among university students should be evaluated not only in terms of individual usage habits but also in relation to perceived family health and family-related variables.
